Pissing our pants yet?
Dit waren de eerste woorden van de meest awesome personage van The Walking Dead. Oja! SPOILER ALERT!!!
Ik ga jullie nu even een stukje van de eerste scene van Negan laten zien want A, het is fucking briljant en B, ik kan dan ook niets spoilen, mocht je nog niet alles hebben gezien. Met alles bedoel ik alles wat tot nu toe is uitgezonden (op dit moment is dat t/m seizoen 7).
Nu heb je gescrold en ben je dus ook helemaal bij met het kijken van de laatste seizoenen van The Walking Dead. Als het niet zo is, jammer dan.
Maar goed, ik wilde het over Negan gaan hebben. Je hebt (tot nu toe dan) alle seizoenen van The Walking Dead gezien, dus ik hoef je niet uit te leggen waarom hij zo briljant is en Jeffrey Dean Morgan zo awesome is in het vertolken van dit personage. Je weet alles al.
Gast, wat is dan je punt?
Ik heb een interview gelezen met Scott Gimple (één van de producers van The Walking Dead) en hier hadden ze het over “the origin story” van Negan. Even voor een aantal mensen: een “origin story” is niet meer dan “Wat deed Negan eigenlijk vóór de zombie apocalypse?”. Hierover gaf Gimple aan dat in het komende seizoen (8) “the origin story” van Negan aan bod gaat komen:
“I do believe yes, it’s in the future. You know, I’m always careful about this, [because] things can absolutely change. There’s a loose plan in place I have.”
“I take that ‘Here’s Negan’ story as the backstory. There’s some aspects of it that will probably be cool [on the show]. It’s some fairly far-flung stuff… in the future, you will see some stuff from that.”
Nu is het er een dingetje met The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead was van oorsprong een comic book. De serie is dan ook gebaseerd op deze reeks comic books en ze gebruiken ze als rode draad voor de serie. Nu lopen de comics natuurlijk enorm voor en is dus eigenlijk al bekend wat er ongeveer gaat gebeuren in de serie. Hierbij wel de opmerking dat ze de comics gebruiken als rode draad, ze nemen niets één op één over. Zo waren Merle en Daryl Dixon speciaal bedacht voor de serie en kwamen ze in geen enkele comic voor.
Wat ik hiermee wil zeggen is dat eigenlijk al bekend is wat “the origin story” van Negan is. Nu kun jij een korte samenvatting (die ik las op dezelfde pagina als het stukje van het interview met Gimple) lezen omdat ik het dat stukje hieronder heb geplaatst. Nogmaals, dit is een enorme spoiler en dit zal worden gebruikt als rode draad in de serie! Veel plezier met “the origin story” van Negan (Negan –> Hartje).
Before the zombie outbreak, Negan was a PE teacher who was bullish, brutish and just a little rough around the edges. He had a wife who feared that his actions could cause him to lose his job, so he tried to balance his actions in order to be respected as the ‘cool teacher’.
His wife falls ill, so Negan rushes to the hospital – where he learns that she has cancer. While she’s being treated, Negan meets with his secret lover to explain that his wife has fallen ill. She ends their affair, and Negan returns to his wife as she quickly deteriorates in her hospital bed.
The apocalypse arrives, much like it did for everyone else in The Walking Dead, as everything spirals out of control around him. He barricades himself in the hospital room with his wife, only to find that she has died and turned into a walker. He screams her name, “Lucille,” and runs to a hallway where he finds a young boy fighting off two walkers.
After rescuing the boy (who he asks to ’take care’ of his wife), the pair travel together for a short time before the boy is quickly killed by a walker. As Negan continues his journey, he meets a man called Paul, who leaves behind a baseball bat. Negan uses it to destroy an entire horde on his own before meeting Dwight and Sherry, making him the de facto leader of their group of survivors.
It’s at this point that his leadership becomes violent, as he brutally destroys a new ‘friend’ who regularly offers the women in his group to anyone they come across. After the ordeal, Negan wraps his baseball bat in barbed wire and names it after his wife. He explains to his group that he can protect them, much like ‘Lucille’ has done this entire time. Although the group is reluctant to join, they eventually agree to follow him and the “Saviors” are born.
